So many people are talking about using Social Media as an instrument for generatiing more Sales, but there are only a few companies that REALLY use social media as it should be used. In this article I´ll show what companies should do to create a REAL presence.

Create a Presence

Everyone is hearing and seeing what´s happening on the online Social networks and because of that companies see potential and smell money. Except companies think it´s enough to be present to generate more sales, but nothing is further from the truth.

Company & Brand reputation scan

Jan 08 2010

Buzzom logoFor all you business and brand owners, there now is a easy way to check how much people are talking about your brand or company and what they are saying. You might think that this is NOT new and you would be right. The only new thing about this is the amount of data that you can request from www.buzzom.com.

The data you can collect:

  • Search in: Bio
  • Search in: Name
  • Search in: Location
  • Search: Tweets

This is ideal to connect with people that share your interests or to do a Company & Brand reputation scan online. You can also locate the people that are leading the conversation and connect with them to help promote your company or brand. But this will take more time to figure out.

I´ve checked my website and Twitter account and there are just four people that have mentioned me. So please Retweet this helpfull post ;-) so I can find more people that mention me.

Don´t get me wrong, this information can also be found when searching within Twitter, but it is pretty nice. Eventhough there are unfixed errors in Twitter and its resource requirement, the system is disabled and is being worked around.

Short URL´s and generating revenue

Social Media | Posted by Koen Paquay
Jan 04 2010

With the coming of Twitter and Microblogging the growth of short url generators has spread like a wild fire. But with change there is always corruption and innovation. Therefore people who want to do bad and send out Spam links they can, because visitors won´t notice if the link is Spam. For instance image retweeting without knowing what kind of link you really are sending to your followers.

But as said before, with change there is also innovation. First there where the simple and “ugly” url shortener, like: http://bit.ly, http://is.gd and many more. Now there are generators like: http://twt.tc (looks great and does the trick just as good).

The only question remains do these Short URL websites generate money? This would really be the next step for URL shortener websites.  I wouldn´t know how this would be possible, seeing as people are visting the website for a short time period, but where there is a will, there is a way. Maybe the following options are usefull:

  1. Put banners on the short url website (simple).
  2. Generate data, that can be used for market research, from the submitted “long” url´s (long period investment)
  3. Redirect to a short “commercial” (by generated short url) before connecting to final destination (quick win, but possible destructive for your website)

I can image that there are many more possible ways to earn money by starting a url shortener website, but is this a real money maker?

Just let me know what you think and maybe we can add some more ways to generate money with a short url website and start one together.

The Return On Investment (#ROI) of Social Media

It doesn´t matter if you target B2B or B2C market, because Social Media works for all markets. You can almost forget the Blue Ocean and focus on the Red one. Just so long you use Social Media the way you should.

Check out this great video about what Social Media can possibly do for you. This video is made by Erik Qualman, author of the book: Socialnomics (which i´ve just ordered).
